The Member of Parliament for the Kwadaso constituency in the Ashanti region, Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, has lambasted Lawyer Maurice Ampaw for criticising the Energy Minister, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, over his ‘NPP T-shirts for vote’ comment.
NAPO, as popularly called, suggested in his recent comments said, Ashanti’s support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could be secured solely by distributing beautiful party T-shirts to them.
Lawyer Ampaw branded the minister’s comments as nonsensical and disrespectful, maintaining that every community deserves development, regardless of political affiliations.
Reacting to Lawyer Ampaw’s comment on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the Kwadaso legislator rubbished those allegations and demanded an apology from Ampaw.
“I read a statement from Maurice Ampaw about the energy minister. It saddens me that he made that statement. People are sharing videos of what NAPO said in 2020 prior to the elections. It was during the COVID-19 period that the minister said if we can’t move to homes to campaign, then we should distribute NPP T-shirts, and with that, people would vote for us. But Maurice Ampaw, a lawyer of his calibre, did not do any background checks for information, and then he came out to describe NAPO’s statement as nonsensical.”
“I am saying that Maurice Ampaw was cuffed because that statement NAPO made was in 2020, and it was during COVID time that you couldn’t go to any home. It was not at Kumawu.”
“There is no place where NAPO says Ashantis do not need development. Maurice Ampaw got it wrong; he has damaged NAPO’s good reputation and, for that matter, has to come and apologize.” The MP told Kwesi Parker Wilson, host of the show,
Meanwhile, Mr Kofi Abrefa Afena, the spokesperson for Energy Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has refuted the claims and described them as distortions.
