Consumers in Kumasi can expect further relief at the market as traders plan to reduce the prices of food products in the next two weeks. This assurance was given by Nana Afia Sika, the Queen of Provisions and Spices in the Ashanti Region, during an appearance on Oyerepa Breakfast Time.
According to her, the process of reducing food prices has already begun, with significant cuts made on essential items such as cooking oil, bags of rice, and other staples.
“Reduction of prices of food products is a continuous process. As we speak, we’ve already reduced prices of cooking oil, bags of rice, and many other products,” she stated.
She further noted that discussions are ongoing with market traders to ensure that prices of all food items are brought down significantly in the coming weeks.
“We are hoping to reduce prices on all products in about two weeks. We’re still speaking with our traders to ensure this happens,” she added.
The planned reduction comes as a welcome development for the Cedi’s appreciation against the US dollar.
Nana Afia Sika emphasised that the move is part of efforts to support consumers and stabilise market conditions in the region.
