Traders at the Kumasi Racecourse Market in Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti region have threatened to boycott payment of tax over the terrible state of the market’s road.
The angry traders say the market as a whole is very bad.
Speaking to the media, the traders said, they have been left to their fate despite an assurance by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to develop the market when they were being evacuated from the main central market.
Despite channelling their confrontations to the necessary authorities, the traders said they have reneged on their numerous promises to fix the road and develop the market.
While expressing disappointment in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, as well as the government, the Bayerehemaa of the Ashanti region, Nana Yaa Foriwah said they lost their capital a year after they were relocated to the market.
Observing one year of their relocation from the Central Market to the Racecourse Market on Tuesday, 13 September 2022, she said due to the bad nature of the road, business activities in the market have been hampered.
She, therefore, on behalf of the traders, gave the KMA up to the end of this month (September) to fix the road and develop the market else they will stop paying taxes to the Assembly.
