Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Adentan, Akosua Manu, has demanded the immediate dismissal of Kumasi Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, following controversial remarks in which he threatened to physically assault traders operating on the city’s pavements.

Speaking in a recent interview on, Akosua Manu strongly condemned the Mayor’s comments, labeling them as reckless, undemocratic, and a danger to public peace.

She emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable from a public official and urged the relevant authorities to take swift action to preserve the dignity of the office and protect the rights of ordinary citizens.

“It’s shocking that someone entrusted with leadership responsibilities can boldly threaten physical assault as a means of enforcement. Even more disturbing is that when questioned, he stood by those comments,” she said.

She argued that the Mayor’s posture promotes violence and undermines the principles of good governance and rule of law. In her view, the President should have already intervened.

“He should have been the shortest-serving appointee in this government. The moment he repeated that physical assault could be used to deter hawkers, the President should have asked the Chief of Staff to remove him. This kind of behaviour has no place in our governance system,” she stressed.

Manu insisted that such conduct is not just inappropriate but dangerous, particularly in a country that upholds democracy and nonviolence. She expressed disappointment that the Mayor had not already been sanctioned or dismissed.

“If this were under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, the KMA Mayor would have been withdrawn immediately and replaced. There is no excuse for repeating such a harmful stance,” she said.

She warned that failing to act sets a poor precedent and risks encouraging other leaders to adopt similar authoritarian tactics.
