The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has officially announced a final decision to demolish the affected building at the Kejetia Blue Light area, following recent safety concerns and structural assessments.
The Mayor of Kumasi announced on Oyerepa Breakfast Show.
According to the Mayor, all ongoing construction or repair activities by traders within the affected section of the market must cease immediately to ensure public safety and facilitate the demolition process.
“We’ve made a final decision to demolish the affected building at Kejetia Blue Light. All traders must immediately stop any ongoing construction or repair works. This action is necessary to protect lives and prevent any further damage or risk within the market,” said Mr. Ofori-Agyemang.
The building in question reportedly sustained significant structural damage in recent months after it was ravaged by fire, prompting investigations by engineers and city officials. After thorough evaluations, the KMA concluded that the building posed a serious threat to public safety and was beyond feasible repair.
Traders who operate within the affected area are being urged to cooperate with city authorities and vacate the premises.
The KMA has assured all affected vendors that alternative arrangements are being considered to minimise disruptions to their livelihoods.
