The Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Samuel Pyne has stated categorically that, it is not mandatory for the government to fix the workplaces of mechanics in the city.
Mechanics in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital have called on the government to fix their deplorable workplaces and routes to facilitate their businesses.
The mechanics speaking to Oyerepa TV disclosed that their workplaces are in a deplorable state and therefore should be fixed.
But speaking in an exclusive interview with Oyerepa TV, Sam Pyne stated that, the mechanics are private workers and consequently must take responsibility of fixing or developing their workplaces.
When he (Sam Pyne) was prompted by the reporter Richmond Frimpong that, the mechanics pay taxes, the KMA mayor stated that;
“We’re not responsible to fix their workplaces because they pay taxes. They have to ensure that they work in a conducive environment.”
“They’re private business owners so what we can do is to send our engineers there to teach them how to do their work well.” Sam Pyne stated.
Subsequently, the KMA boss has said, the assembly is poised to support and enhance the work of mechanics.
According to him, the assembly is planning to give the mechanics adequate equipment to accelerate their work.
