The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), as part of its effort to combat the poor sanitation system within the metropolitan assembly, has today launched its biggest project, known as the Holistic Reinforcement for Sustainable Development project (HORESD).
This new special initiative of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly constitutes an essential factor in contributing to good health, high productivity, and the welfare of the people.
This is to ensure that the city is kept clean and healthy through the provision and delivery of effective and efficient waste collection services and programs and environmentally acceptable disposal, thereby creating an enabling environment for healthy living.

Speaking exclusively on the launch of this massive project with Nana Yaw Mensah Joel on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show, the major of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Samuel Pyne, together with representatives from Spina, explained that this is aimed at building and strengthening the capacity of the Assembly and the public to collectively practice healthy environmental activities that will reduce the re-using, recycling, and recovering of waste contained in the city.
He stated that the assembly has been able to secure eight branded new compact trucks to manage waste under the project, as well as 1,000 containers for house-to-house waste collection.
Adding that the KMA alone could not build the kind of city that all desire to see, that is, a city clean and green, free from traffic congestion with quality healthcare and educational systems, gainful jobs for the youth, and sustainable income for households, realizing this dream requires the holistic engagement of all citizens in making this project a success.
However, the project, after its launch today, will duly commence on November 1, 2023, to begin operations.
Meanwhile, he revealed that training for drivers and other personnel is underway to help equip personnel to use trucks and other machinery in this project.
The major members of the assembly expressed their gratitude to the EU for the enormous support and interventions towards the successful implementation of the project.
