The vice chairperson for the Kumasi City Market, Nana Agyenim Boateng (Amoaman Hene) has disclosed that the construction of phase two of the Krofrom market is in limbo because Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has refused to sign a letter to pave way for the construction of the project despite securing of a loan to commence work.
Speaking on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show hosted by Nana Yaw Mensah Joel, the Liaison Officer for Asantehene, further explained why the project has become a standstill.
According to him, “Osei Assibey didn’t sign the letter during his time because he said he is about to leave office. Sam Pyne also said the Assembly will do it.”
A four-phase project which started in 2008 during the era of former President Agyakum Kuffour is expected to contain 2308 stalls, 278 shops, 4 food courts, 110 parking lots, 178 loading stations to Bolga, Taxi ranks, Banking Hall, a Creche, Police and Fire stations and others.
However, the project has been left in the hands of criminals who sleep and deficate in it every day. The KMA is unconcerned despite traders plying their business in the middle of Kumasi’s principal streets.
