Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), strongly criticized Kennedy Agyapong, a hopeful flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his actions and comments.
Asiedu Nketia expressed concern that if Agyapong were to become Ghana’s president, he would disregard the country’s rule of law.
The NDC Chairman’s comment is in response to the ongoing dispute between Ken and Wontumi regarding the murder of journalist, Ahmed Suale.
Wontumi recently revealed that Kennedy was involved in Suale’s murder and that he intended to report the matter to the police.
When Ken was questioned about Wontumi’s allegation in an interview, he responded,
“You see, I don’t want to talk about Chairman Wontumi. He is a young man who has just come into [the party], and I have forgiven him.
“I thought a bold man would always say that if he challenges me again or threatens me, I am also going to face you. But if you resorted to the police, it means you are a coward; case closed,” he added.
Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, October 11, 2023, Asiedu Nketia expressed his disagreement with Kennedy Agyapong’s assertion, stating that it implies a lack of respect for the rule of law, adding that if Agyapong were to become President of Ghana, he would potentially disregard the law and act in a lawless manner.
“When Kennedy was asked to respond to Wontumi’s allegation, he said, that only women report an alleged criminality to the police. He said you must prepare as a man and face that person…Someone who wants to become president, instead of you making sure the rule of law works; you’re rather going to fight someone?“
“Such a person if members of his party prepared and invaded UTV, isn’t that culture in the party?”He enquired.
Asiedu Nketia further said, “Per what is happening, Kenned would become lawless if he becomes President.”
