Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has officially announced his withdrawal from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ongoing Thank You Tour.
According to Agyapong, his decision stems from concerns over the safety of his supporters. He explained that recent events have shown he cannot guarantee their protection during the tour.
The move follows a disturbing incident in which a student was allegedly stabbed by a security personnel linked to Ali Suraj, another figure within the party. In light of this, Agyapong said he could no longer, in good conscience, participate in the tour.
His withdrawal is expected to stir conversations within the party, especially given the rising tensions surrounding internal events and security concerns.
“If they treat students like this, then what will happen to my boys? I have decided to withdraw from the Thank You tour to afford Dr Bawumia the opportunity to tour alone as the former flagbearer of the party,” he said.
Kennedy Agyapong used the opportunity to officially declare that he will be contesting for the flagbearership and nothing can stop him from contesting.
“I am using this opportunity to announce that I will be contesting because we have built the party for a very long time,” he said.
