Former member of parliament for Assin Central constituency, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has made a generous donation of GHC100,000 to support the re-electrification project at the Kantamanto Market in Accra. This donation comes after a devastating fire ravaged parts of the market in 2nd January 2025.
In a show of solidarity with the affected traders, former Assin Central Lawmaker also donated 200 pieces of streetlights to enhance visibility and security within and around the market.
The former Presidential Aspirant of the New Patriot Party (NPP) urged leaders of the Kantamanto market to prioritize decongestion and emergency access as they rebuild their structures.
During his visit to the market, Agyapong noted that the narrow spaces between stalls could hinder firefighters in the event of another fire outbreak, which he hopes to prevent.
To address this concern, Mr Agyapong appealed to the market leaders to incorporate decongestion plans into their reconstruction efforts. He emphasized the importance of creating accessible pathways for emergency responders.
He assured the Kantamanto traders of his commitment to supporting the market’s recovery. He pledged to provide physical and financial assistance to help the market regain its former vitality.
Mr Agyapong’s donation is specifically earmarked for the re-electrification of the affected areas within the market, aimed at supporting the traders and vendors who were impacted by the fire.
This act of kindness is a significant boost to the market’s recovery efforts, and demonstrates Agyapong’s commitment to supporting the local community.
