Eugene Boakye Antwi, the Member of Parliament for Subin constituency, has publicly condemned Ken Ofori-Atta, the former Finance Minister, for Ghana’s economic struggles.
According to him, Ofori-Atta was running a one-man show and disregarded Dr. Bawumia, the head of the economic management team.
Speaking in an interview with Kwesi Parker Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the lawmaker reiterated that Ghanaians should blame the former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for the bad state of the economy.
“Ken Ofori-Atta is solely to blame for the bad state of Ghana’s economy, not Bawumia. After the COVID-19 pandemic, Ken was running a one-man show.
He had no regard for the Vice President Bawumia as head of the economic management team. I am reliably informed that Bawumia often drove the Finance Ministry before he sees Ofori-Atta for meetings.” he asserted.
Eugene Antwi was part of the MPs who led the “Ken Must Go” campaign, demanding Ofori-Atta’s removal due to mismanagement of Ghana’s economy.
His bold stance on this issue may have contributed to his recent loss in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries. Some attribute his defeat to his lack of popularity in the constituency and opposition to powerful figures. Others believe his call for Ofori-Atta’s resignation was a significant factor.
Despite his loss, the Subin MP remains optimistic about Ghana’s economic future, crediting Dr. Amin Adams, Ofori-Atta’s replacement, for the country’s economic rebound.
