ADO2 Opoku Ebenezer, Kejetia Fire Commander has raised deep concerns about the state of the Kumasi Kejetia Market.
According to him, there could be another fire-outbreak in the market if swift measures are not taken.
A series of minor fires have been recorded in the Kejetia market but the Fire Commander believes that the rate at which traders are selling at unauthorized places in the market can cause another fire outbreak and will be very cumbersome to quench.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday May 5, 2022 during the celebration of International Firefighter Day (IFFD), the Kejetia Fire Commander explained that many people have resorted to trading on the edifice’s evacuation way.
He added that the edifice’s cabinet has also been taken over by the sellers. As a result, if there is any fire-outbreak, it will be very difficult for firefighters to quench it on time.
“People are trading on our cabinet, they are trading on the market’s evacuation way so in case, there is a hefty fire, we can’t get access to the cabinet to quench it, the fire will escalate .” He stated.
ADO2 Opoku Ebenezer has however asked all traders to relegate all unauthorized places, especially the evacuation way and the cabinet to avoid any accident.
He has entreated authorities of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to as a matter of urgency evacuate the traders from the dangerous places to save the market from fire.
