A man believed to be in his late 30s is receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic after a mob beat him for allegedly stealing fridge parts at Walantu Junction in the Awutu Senya East Municipality.
According to reports, the incident occurred at a refrigerator repair shop where the suspect was allegedly caught in the act of removing the motor from a fridge that had been brought in for repairs. The suspect was reportedly confronted by some individuals at the scene and subjected to severe beatings.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Ansah, the shop owner, Sylvester Awugya, said the shop had recently experienced several break-ins, resulting in the theft of spare parts. He explained that on the morning of the incident, a friend alerted him after allegedly catching the suspect attempting to remove motors from two fridges at the shop.
Mr Awugya stated that the suspect was unknown to them and was caught red-handed during the act, which led to the mob attack before authorities arrived.
Police officers from the Kasoa Divisional Police Command later intervened, rescuing the suspect from the mob and rushing him to the Kasoa Polyclinic, where he is currently in critical condition and receiving medical attention.
Police have since launched an investigation into the incident, while also cautioning the public against mob justice and urging residents to report suspected criminal activities to the appropriate authorities for lawful action.
