A heavy downpour in Kasoa, located in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, has left one person dead and displaced more than 500 residents.
The flooding submerged over 300 houses and caused significant property damage across affected communities.
The deceased, a man believed to be in his early thirties, reportedly died while attempting to cross a wooden bridge over the Okrudu River. Witnesses say the force of the rainwater swept away both the bridge and the victim.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Seth Banini confirmed the incident to Adom News, expressing sympathy to the bereaved family. The body has since been recovered and sent to the Police Hospital morgue as authorities work to identify and contact his relatives.
Meanwhile, Nash Nyandey, the Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), attributed the severity of the flooding to structures illegally built on waterways, which have blocked drainage and worsened the situation.
