The Kasoa Akweley District Court has fined 28 commercial drivers and private vehicle users GH¢540 each for using unauthorised emergency lighting, including “fok” lights.

The convictions followed an enforcement operation conducted by the Kasoa Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) along the Kasoa–Winneba road.

The exercise was led by the MTTD Commander, Superintendent Hannah Adjei, as part of efforts to enforce road traffic regulations and improve safety on the roads.

According to the police, the use of unauthorised emergency lights and sirens, including “fok” lights, is prohibited under road traffic regulations.

The police said motorists had been given a one-month grace period to remove the unauthorised devices and comply with the directive. However, some drivers continued to use the prohibited lighting systems after the grace period expired.

Speaking after the court proceedings, the Police Prosecutor at the Kasoa Akweley District Court, Chief Inspector Cephas Atsor, said the fines were intended to serve as a deterrent to other motorists.

He warned drivers and vehicle owners to comply with road traffic regulations and desist from using unauthorised emergency lighting and sirens.

Chief Inspector Atsor added that the exercise forms part of a nationwide police operation aimed at enforcing road traffic laws, promoting discipline among motorists and ensuring safety on Ghana’s roads.
