Justice Torkorno would continue her job if she is vindicated; Mahama has no position on the matter – Kwakye Ofosu
The Minister of State in charge of Government, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has clarified that President John Mahama has no personal position on the ongoing proceedings involving the suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.
Speaking in an interview with Kwesi Parker-Wilson, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated that the fate of the embattled Chief Justice now lies with the Supreme Court and constitutionally established processes.
“President Mahama has no option beyond doing what the Council of State and the Constitution require of him. This matter is now before a competent authority and will follow due process,” he explained.
He further noted that the Chief Justice, who was recently suspended following a petition citing allegations of misconduct and abuse of office, would be given every opportunity to defend herself before the special committee tasked with investigating the matter.
“If the Chief Justice is able to prove before the committee that the allegations against her are false, so be it. She will be allowed to continue her job if she is vindicated of all the charges,” he added.
Justice Torkornoo has publicly accused the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of victimization, describing the petition against her as politically motivated.
