Seven Nigerians suspected to be involved in cybercrime or scamming (Sakawa) have been apprehended at Ampatia Hemang in Atwima Kwanwoma district of the Ashanti Region.
The fraudsters were arrested early Friday morning by some officers of the Ghana immigration service from Nkawie.
Assembly Member for Hemang Ampatia electoral area, Mr James Sarfo who broke the news to this portal said, the scammers are foreigners and are made up of 2 young women and 5 men.
He said some residents of the community informed him about the works of the suspected fraudsters.
He however called the Ghana immigration service at Nkawie for their arrest.
The Hemang Ampatia assembly member added that alleged criminals had Ghana cards and Health Insurance cards in possession.
The Ghana Immigration Service Nkawie District Commander, DSI Justice Dzisa Akpedonu who spearheaded the arrest speaking to Oyerepa online reporter, Joe Marfo via phone declared that the suspected criminals are Nigerians. They were living in the same room.
He confirmed that 2 laptops, smartphones 5, other phones 3, a landline, and power banks believed to be used for their fraudulent work were retrieved.
According to him, the suspected Nigerian criminals have been transported to the Ghana Immigration Service headquarters in Adum-Kumasi for interrogation and thorough investigation.
