A jealous lover, identified as Joseph Richard, allegedly set fire to the room of his girlfriend, Betty Herman, at Axim in Western Region following a breakup.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday, February 13, 2025, around 3 a.m., left Betty’s two children, 16-year-old Joseph Ben and 3-year-old Richlove Asiedua Yeboah, with severe burns as they were asleep when the blaze started.
According to reports, Richard committed the act out of anger after Betty ended their relationship. Eyewitnesses claim he deliberately set the room ablaze, possibly intending to harm the children.
Fortunately, quick intervention by neighbors, who promptly alerted the police and firefighters, prevented further tragedy.
Both victims were rescued and are currently receiving critical medical care at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Following the incident, Richard fled the scene. However, his clothes and a gallon suspected to have contained fuel were discovered nearby, serving as crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Distressed residents have called on law enforcement to swiftly apprehend Richard and ensure he faces justice for his alleged crime.
