The Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, has been appointed as the new Majority Leader in Parliament following changes made to President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial team.

The appointment follows President Mahama’s nomination of Mahama Ayariga, the former Majority Leader, as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, creating a vacancy in the leadership position in Parliament.

As part of the reshuffle, President Mahama also nominated the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, as Minister-designate for Defence.

A statement from the Presidency indicated that Mr Adjei has been reassigned to the Defence Ministry, with the changes forwarded to Parliament through the Speaker in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

The reshuffle further saw Ahmed Ibrahim, MP, moved from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to take charge of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

President Mahama has also nominated Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP, as Minister-designate for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.

The new ministerial appointments remain subject to approval by Parliament before they can take effect.
