Daughters of Glorious Jesus, a legendary gospel music trio, has settled the debate over secular music being sinful for Christians,
According to the music group, listening to positive secular songs does not make a person an unbeliever.
In the opinion of three senior gospel musicians, not all secular songs turn people into deviants, but some do.
To further their case, one of the trio, Edna Sarpong, referenced the works of Amakye Dede and Kojo Antwi, who she claims preach positivity and have inspired and pushed many followers to do good.
The group, which includes Monica Owusu Ansah, Edna Sarpong, and Cynthia Appiadu, objected Rev Moses Ok’s warning to Christians not to listen to secular music because the lyrics are inspired by evil spirits, instead advising Christians to listen to only gospel songs that have the spirit of God in them.
According to Edna Sarpong, the skill of secular singers, like that of gospel singers, was given by God, and it is up to Christians to know which positive secular music to listen to.
“It is God who gives talent. As a Christian, you can listen to secular songs; even their lyrics can touch you and compel you to do the right thing.
“I like Amakye Dede’s songs, and I like him. This doesn’t make me a non-believer. You don’t judge people’s outlooks and determine whether the person is a Christian or not. That I am playing Amakye Dede in my car doesn’t mean I am not a Christian.”
