“It was consensual” – MP defends KNUST SHS assistant headmaster in viral video

Theophilus Dominic VonDee, Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, has stirred controversy with remarks suggesting that the KNUST Senior High School student seen in a viral video with her assistant headmaster consented to the act.

Speaking during a panel discussion on Adom TV on September 30, 2025, VonDee said:
“I am a realist. Personally, I like to say things the way they are. If you watch the video carefully, sincerely, the man was not forcing the young girl. He didn’t force her; it was more of a consented thing.”

He further claimed that the interaction appeared to be mutual:
“The old man and the young lady agreed to do that, and it must be established. There is no sin in saying the man forced the young lady. It was a consented thing; both agreed to be in that mood.”

His comments come in the wake of swift disciplinary action taken against Charles Akwasi Aidoo, Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST SHS, after the video went viral on social media.

In a statement dated September 29, 2025, the Ghana Education Service (GES) confirmed that Aidoo had been removed from office and barred from entering the school premises pending investigations.

The GES explained that the decision was taken to safeguard the integrity of the teaching profession and protect the welfare of students.

“The GES remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and child protection in all our schools. We strongly condemn any acts that compromise the safety, dignity, and well-being of students,” the statement read.

It assured parents, students, and the public that due process would be followed and that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken in line with its code of conduct.

The Service further reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, stressing its commitment to ensuring a safe and credible learning environment across all schools.
