Ghanaian hiplife icon Reginald Yaw Asante Osei, popularly known as Reggie Rockstone, has recalled an awkward moment with a former lover that reinforced an old warning from his friends about getting involved with female fans.

The Grandpapa of Hiplife said some of his friends believed romantic encounters with admirers could strip celebrities of the larger-than-life image fans often associate with them.

“My friends used to say we shouldn’t sleep with the fans. I remember years back, I was with this girl, when I was Reggie Rockstone; she was a fine sister,” he said.

Reggie Rockstone recounted how the woman’s unexpected comment after their intimate encounter left him questioning whether she still viewed him through the same celebrity lens.

“We did the ‘do’ and we were done; we were in an air-conditioned room. I was naked and I was trying to wear my clothes. The lady was lying on the bed watching me as I was wearing my clothes and she said to me, ‘So is this the Rockstone, Rockstone I’ve been hearing about?’ just because she had seen me naked,” he recounted.

According to the hiplife pioneer, the experience demonstrated what his friends meant by their warning, but he maintained that he never exploited his celebrity status in his relationships with women.

“When my friends say don’t sleep with the fans, it kind of demotes the shine. I’ve never taken advantage of who I am in terms of my relations with women. Women love famous people, but I never took advantage,” he said.

He added that several women he dated were genuinely interested in him as an individual rather than simply being attracted to the Reggie Rockstone persona.

“I met real people and a lot of women I dated were real. They didn’t come to me because I was Reggie Rockstone,” he added.

Reggie Rockstone’s recollection offers a humorous glimpse into the complicated relationship between celebrity image and private life, particularly when admiration meets personal intimacy.
