General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua, has refuted claims that former President John Agyekum Kufuor has been sidelined in the party.

He stated that the NPP continues to involve the former president in its decision-making processes and activities, in line with provisions outlined in the party’s constitution.

Justin Kodua made these remarks during an interview on Peace FM.

“Under the Fourth Republic, the man who first secured power for us was Kufuor, and we are proud of him as a former statesman. There is no way we would do anything and fail to inform him.

“Our party constitution makes all past presidents members of the National Executive Committee. When it comes to the National Council, all past presidents are also part. Anytime we have meetings, we invite them.

“For former President Kufuor he has two aides, Araba Bosompem and Adu Acheampong. Every meeting we hold, we serve them notice, and they acknowledge receipt,” Kodua explained.

He further questioned the timing of the video, suggesting it was not a recent interview.

“The video raises questions because former President Kufuor is not even in the country at the moment. I can tell you that the video was recorded before the NPP launched the Patriotic Institute,” he added.

Background

Former President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufour, has complained bitterly about the decision of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to snub him in decision-making in the political party.

According to him, his mind and memory are intact, and the least the party can do is to keep him informed.

The former president made this known when he met with flagbearer hopeful Bryan Acheampong at his residence.

He noted that the party is currently taking certain decisions but has decided not to tap into his vast knowledge, something he believes must not be done.

To him, his contributions to the political party cannot be overlooked at this time because he is one of the elders of the political party.

“My mind and memory are intact. The least the party can do is to keep me informed. Let me hear what’s happening,” he said.

He reminded the party and its leadership that “If there are elders in this party [NPP], I am surely one.”
