The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the Ministry of Information have opened a book of condolence for the late Mr. Godwin Avenorgbo, a former executive member and chairman of the GJA’s 75th anniversary planning committee.
Mr. Avenorgbo, affectionately known as “The Grandmaster,” passed away on Monday at the age of 78. He was the Communications Director of Melcom Group, the largest retail chain store in the country.
GJA President, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, described Mr. Avenorgbo as a “trailblazer” who made significant contributions to the GJA’s history. “He was a principled and intelligent man who always encouraged us to strive for excellence.”
Information Minister, Hon. Fatimatu Abubakar, expressed her deepest condolences to the family and praised Mr. Avenorgbo’s active participation in the GJA’s 75th anniversary celebration. “We were hoping to celebrate his 79th birthday next, but God had other plans.”
The minister assured the family and the GJA of their support in giving Mr. Avenorgbo a befitting sendoff. “We pray that his gentle soul will rest in perfect peace until we meet again.”
Mr. Avenorgbo will be remembered for his inspiring leadership, energy, and joyous spirit, which he displayed even in his old age. His legacy will continue to inspire the media fraternity in Ghana.
