The newly elected National Executives of the Borla Taxi and Tricycle Association (BTTA) under Informal Waste Workers Ghana has vowed to go after persons who indulge themselves in dumping of refuse.
At the inaugural and swearing-in ceremony of the Association ,they alluded that illegal dumping of the refuse is making the Association not to gain the needed recognition they deserve.
Speaking to the media after a colourful event, JohnBosco Avom Aduko,President of the Association, opined that they are ready and willing to prosecute any person found culpable to the law
According to him, a spot fine has been instituted by the association, so it will serve as a deterrent to others,he therefore urged members of the Association to use the safety precaution tool when doing their Job.
Max H. Jumbo, Secretary of the Association, highlighted the significant role Borla Taxi and Tricycle Association (BTTA) plays in Ghana’s sanitation ecosystem.
He noted that they’re more visible across the country compared to bigger trucks, and emphasized that they need government support to effectively serve the public and contribute to national development.
Foster Ayagah, organizer of Borla Taxi and Tricycle Association warned that the Association is taking strict measures against drivers who dump waste on the roadside without covering it.
“We’re doing everything possible to catch them,” he said. The Association plans to publish pictures of offending drivers for dumping waste on the road, to serve as a deterrent.
