Popular Kumawood actress Kala Kumasi has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to appoint her and other notable actors who supported his campaign to prominent positions in his administration.
In a video, the outspoken actress urged President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to acknowledge the contributions she and her colleagues made during their door-to-door campaigns, which aimed to convince Ghanaians to give them an overwhelming victory in the 2024 general elections.
“I have seen President John Mahama hand out positions to people. I, Kala Kumasi, haven’t received mine. I am begging you to remember us. We were the ones who campaigned for you to win. The campaigns we did were massive.
“We moved from door to door to villages. John Mahama, I have seen positions being handed out. We are in Kumasi and you are in Accra. I was the one who featured in a clothing advert for your party,” Kala Kumasi explained.
Kala Kumasi revealed that she and her colleagues had plans to travel from Kumasi to Accra to demand the key government positions they believe they rightfully deserve for their efforts in campaigning to secure President John Dramani Mahama’s re-election.
She expressed disappointment, stating that she and her fellow actors feel overlooked by the new government, which has already made several high-profile appointments, including ministers for finance, interior, tourism, culture, and creative arts, within just a month of taking office from the New Patriotic Party.
Kala Kumasi was part of a group of Kumawood stars, including Wayoosi, Big Akwes, Mr. Beautiful, Mercy Asiedu, Michael Afranie, and Christiana Awuni, who became vocal supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). They played significant roles in rallying support for the party and President Mahama, particularly in the Ashanti Region.
