Former District Chief Executive (DCE) of Atwima Nwabiagya, in the Ashanti Region, Nana Asare Bediako has stated that he will quit the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if the party fails to elect ex-President John Dramani Mahama its flagbearer.
According to him, John Mahama is the only candidate in the NDC who can guide the party to take power away from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2022.
“If Mahama doesn’t lead the NDC in 2024 elections, I’ll disassociate myself from the party. I’ll never involve myself in any campaign.” Nana Asare Bediako, told Bismark Brown, host of Oyerepa Breakfast Time on Monday, 28th March 2022.
Although the NDC has not opened nominations for persons seeking to contest the flagbearship slot of the party ahead of the 2024 elections, familiar names like Dr Kwabena Duffuor, Mr Kojo Bonsu and ex-President Mahama have already declared their intention to contest for the position.
However, Nana Asare Bediako, who is widely known as Obama believes that there is no other individual in the NDC who can be compared to Mahama on all fronts. Consequently, if the party executives make any mistake to elect any other person than him, they have done nothing. The party will lose the impending 2024 Ghana general polls.
“If you snub Mahama and bring on a different candidate, you’ve done nothing…” He disclosed.
As per him, he will dissociate himself from the NDC activities, basically, its campaigns.
“I can’t stop supporting NDC but I will distance myself from its activities. I won’t be active. I’ll only come back if people who made that, mistake realized it and made the rightful decision.” The former DCE categorically stated.
