Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Inspector General of Police (IGP), has promoted seven officers of the Tema Regional Police Command for their roles in a recent anti-robbery operation in Tema.
In a statement dated Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the Police Service said the promotions followed the officers’ swift response to a robbery attack on a Mobile Money vendor at Tema Community 5. The operation led to the shooting of two suspected robbers and the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, and other items.
The officers elevated to higher ranks are Chief Inspector Enoch Nartey Nuer, Inspector Gershon Dekpey, Inspector Prince Asante, Sergeant Lukman Mohammed, Sergeant Eugene Kuudouru, Corporal Jerome Akator, and Lance Corporal Jonathan Sewurah.
The IGP, together with members of the Police Management Board, commended the officers for their professionalism and bravery, urging them to see their promotion as a call to greater responsibility.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Monday, April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza in Tema Community 5. Two suspects, riding a motorbike, approached the vendor, with one posing as a customer seeking a cash-out transaction. The suspect reportedly pulled a pistol and demanded the vendor’s cash. During a struggle that ensued when the second suspect joined, the female vendor was shot in the leg before the attackers fled with the money.
A patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit later intercepted the suspects near the Tema General Hospital area. The suspects, however, refused to stop and led officers on a chase toward the Smart Hotel area, during which they reportedly opened fire. Police returned fire, wounding the suspects and causing them to fall off their motorbike.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of GH¢11,390 believed to be the stolen money, a black 9mm pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition, three Android phones, assorted SIM cards, a talisman, and the victim’s Ghana Card. An empty bullet shell was also retrieved from the scene.
Meanwhile, the injured vendor is reported to be in stable condition and is receiving medical treatment.
