“If Obinim ends the marriage, I’ll take Florence” — Big Akwes

Ghanaian actor Akwesi Asamoah, popularly known as Big Akwes, has stirred controversy after openly expressing his admiration for Florence Obinim, wife of popular preacher Bishop Daniel Obinim, and declaring his intention to pursue her if her marriage ever ends.

His remarks come amid ongoing public debate surrounding tensions in the marriage of Bishop Daniel Obinim, founder of International God’s Way Church, and his wife Florence Obinim, following repeated public discussions and criticism involving the couple.

In an interview, Big Akwes took issue with Bishop Obinim’s public comments about his wife, warning that such statements could damage her image and future prospects.

“If Obinim leaves Florence, I will accept her. He doesn’t know what he has and he is busily disgracing her publicly. If he no longer loves her, he should say it so that Florence can be free,” he said.

He further insisted that he has long admired Florence but has always respected her marital status.

“She has always been my crush, and I admired her so much, but I didn’t know how to approach her. You don’t take what belongs to someone by force. Since Florence Obinim is still his wife, I cannot tell her I love her, but the day he divorces her, I will go for her,” he added.

Big Akwes also urged Bishop Obinim to handle any marital issues privately rather than airing them in public, arguing that such exposure only brings embarrassment to his wife.

“He should end the marriage in a mature way so that those who are interested can have the chance, but not disgrace her like that,” he said.

He further downplayed the stigma around divorce among religious figures, insisting that separation is not unusual within the clergy; hinting that Obinim will not be the first or last to end his marriage.

“There are many pastors who have left their wives, and nothing happened. Some even remarried,” he noted.

Big Akwes maintained that his admiration for Florence Obinim remains unchanged despite the ongoing controversy, adding that any negative comments about her will not deter his feelings should she ever become single.

“All the things he is saying about his wife will not discourage me from loving her,” he stated.

His comments have sparked heated reactions online.
