“I’d choose Ghana over US or US even with $100,000 salary”- Abeiku Santana

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, has declared that no $100,000 monthly salary would convince him to abandon Ghana for life in the United States or the United Kingdom.

According to the broadcaster and tourism executive, Ghana offers significant economic opportunities that many citizens overlook because they focus more on the country’s challenges than on ways to turn those challenges into businesses.

“If you gave me a $100,000 monthly salary to live in America or to live in the UK, I’ll choose Ghana. Ask me why. There are more opportunities in Ghana than in America. We see the opportunity, but we are not able to seize the opportunity,” he said.

Abeiku Santana said foreigners often recognise and capitalise on opportunities in Ghana that locals dismiss or complain about, turning everyday challenges into sources of income.

“Then foreigners or expatriates come; they see it, and they seize it. We see the opportunity, but we lament. We always complain. Anything that people are complaining about is an opportunity. Opportunity is work. Opportunity is problems. But we don’t like problems,” he explained.

His comments have sparked discussion about Ghana’s business environment, with the tourism executive urging citizens to shift from complaining about economic difficulties to identifying practical ways of benefiting from them.
