The Majority Leader in Parliament and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame Constituency Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has expressed worry about the Kunatenase chief’s report to President Akufo-Addo over the delay of the construction of the Kumasi Ahinsan-Lake stretch.
Chief of Kuntenase (Kuntenasehene) in the Bosomtwe District reported contractor Kofi Job to President Akufo-Addo when he visited the Bosomtwe District to inspect the Kumasi Ahinsan-Lake road which has stalled intermittently since its construction started in 2018.
According to the chief, if the necessary action is not taken, the road contractors will vacate.
“You awarded the road for construction in 2018, the contractor came in April 2019. He came on-site for about a week and left. Today, I have seen his trucks parked along the road.”
“I think it is because of the President’s visit, he will soon remove the machines from the road”, he told the President.
Reacting to the chief’s statement in an interview with Bismark Brown on Oyerepa TV morning show (Breakfast Time), Mr Kyei Mensah said, he was worried when the chief mentioned only Kofi Job’s name to President Akufo-Addo.
“The Kumasi Ahinsan-Lake stretch has been given to two companies Kofi Job and a Chines company- China Heman International (CHICO), so I expected the chief to mention the two but he singled out Kofi Job, that was my worry’. He said.
“I am aware that Kofi is constructing the road in two faces. He is working on the face one, meanwhile the government has not given him any money, he’s pre-financing the project”. He revealed.
The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs affirmed that although most of the contractors are working on a turnkey project, yet the government owes but will settle them in no time.
He underlined that the Road fund and Structure fund are not enough to finance the construction of roads in the country therefore the government should find new ways of funding the projects.
