Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame constituency in the Ashanti Region, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has backed the Alan-Bawumia ticket for 2024, as suggested by the Chairperson of the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hackman Owusu-Agyemang.
In a recent interview, Mr. Hackman indicated that it is important for the NPP to put together two of its most popular people, which would be a fantastic idea.
“In fact, if I were to be asked, I would say that ideally, if we can get the vice president (Bawumia) and my own brother Kyerematen, together, it will be fantastic.” The Chairperson said
Reacting to Mr. Hackaman’s suggestion on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the Majority Leader said it’s good that the Chairperson of the Council of Elders NPP has added his voice to it and claimed he started consultation over the Alan-Bawumia ticket.
“I started the Alan-Bawumia conversation way back, even in 2021, I went to see some elders in the party and suggested to them that we should join Alan and Bawumia. I saw Kwadwo Mpiani and ex-President Kufour. Kwadwo Mpiani agreed, but he asked who should be the president. He gave the idea that the party should engage an independent group to conduct a survey in order to choose president and running mate between the two. My colleagues can attest that, at a caucus meeting, I raised that issue.
When I went to former President Kufour, he said, “We are a Democratic Party, so why should we not allow a contest to elect the flagbearer?” Mr. Kyei-Mensah Bonsu stated.
The Suame MP revealed that ex-President Kufour’s suggestions toned him down on the Alan-Bawumia ticket.
“About four months ago, I met Kwadwo Mpiani, he asked why I didn’t return to him for the Alan-Bawumia conversation. I told him that, because of what President Kufour said, that’s why I did not come back to talk about it.” He told Kwesi Parker-Wilson host of the show.
