“I paid her fees; fed her” – Man demands GH¢150K refund from ex-girlfriend

A young man is demanding the return of GH¢150,000 he allegedly spent taking care of his girlfriend throughout her education with the intention of marrying her.

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, a 36-year-old man identified as Clement appeared on Oyerepa Afutuo, hosted by Auntie Naa. Clement, who hails from Atebubu, claimed he met a young woman named Rakia when she was in her first year at Atebubu Training College while he was in his final year at the university.

According to him, he developed an interest in Rakia, and after she accepted his proposal, she introduced him to her family. Clement said Rakia’s mother informed him that she was financially incapable of supporting her daughter through school and advised him to wait until they both completed their education before getting married.

“She took me to her family. Her mother told me Rakia’s biological father lives in Accra, while the man she currently lives with is her stepfather. She explained that Rakia’s father was not taking care of her,” Clement said.

Clement stated that he took full financial responsibility for Rakia throughout her schooling. He claimed he paid her school fees, provided feeding money, catered for her personal expenses, and also supported her mother financially.

After they both completed school, Clement said they began making marriage preparations. He requested the marriage list from Rakia and reportedly bought the required items. However, he alleged that Rakia later began behaving differently toward him.

He accused her of engaging in suspicious phone conversations and claimed she once told him that another man she was speaking with was assisting with their marriage preparations.

“I called her one time, and she was on another call. When I asked who she was speaking to, she said it was a man helping us with the marriage preparations. I questioned why I was being left out when we were both involved. She hung up on me and stopped answering my calls. Later, I went online and saw a voice note she sent insulting me,” he narrated.

Clement further alleged that when he reported the issue to Rakia’s mother and stepfather, her mother also insulted him.

“She asked me why I came around when I knew I was ugly and said people were talking about her. She even told me I did not deserve her daughter,” he added.

According to Clement, he later discovered that Rakia was in a relationship with another man.

He explained that he carefully documented all the money he spent on Rakia, including school fees, vacation expenses, utensils, upkeep, financial support to her family, and several other costs.

Calling Rakia on air, she also claimed she never asked Clement to do anything for her. She said she had brothers and loved ones who were taking care of her, and that it was his own decision to give her all that money. However, she added that the amount he is demanding does not tally with what he actually spent on her.

She stated: “I never asked him to give me any money. It was his own will to do that. I have brothers and loved ones who were giving me money, so the amount he is demanding is wrong. Even my school fees do not cost that much.”

Clement is therefore appealing to Auntie Naa and her team to help him retrieve the GH¢150,000 he claims he spent on Rakia from the time they met at training college until their separation.
