Multiple award-winning Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has opened up about his approach to raising his children, describing a parenting style that blends close involvement with intentional independence training.

Speaking in an interview, the rapper explained that despite his packed schedule, he makes time to participate in his children’s morning routine and overall upbringing whenever possible.

He revealed that he often assists with their preparation for school and enjoys being part of their early-day activities, while also acknowledging that his wife frequently steps in to correct him when needed.

According to him, “I help the children take their baths in the morning, and my wife corrects me often. Only when I can, I wake up early and get them ready. I enjoy dressing them up and wishing them a good day. When they return from school, they tell me what happened. Even when I am away, the driver brings them to me, and sometimes we go home together. That is the life I enjoy, and it is a perfect situation for me.”

Sarkodie also explained that while he is committed to providing comfort for his children, he deliberately avoids overindulgence, choosing instead to let them learn problem-solving skills on their own.

He added, “When you have children, you want to provide everything for them, but I also want them to learn. So sometimes you act like you don’t know what they are asking you to do so they try to figure things out themselves. I sometimes feel bad about it, but I have had to train my mind that they need to do it.”

The rapper further noted that protecting children too much from real-life experiences can be counterproductive, saying he intentionally exposes them to ordinary situations to help them adapt.

“In the beginning, I protected them from everything so they would not see what reality is, which is very dangerous for children. Imagine allowing my children to take a public bus; that would be the scariest moment of my life, but I had to let them experience it,” he said.

His comments have sparked admiration from fans who see him as a grounded celebrity father, balancing fame with family responsibility.
