Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially announced his intention to contest for the National Chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Ashanti Regional Chairman said his decision is grounded in his track record and performance in the region, which he believes sets him apart as a strong candidate for the national role.
Speaking in a video attached to this report, Wontumi pointed to the Ashanti Region’s performance in the last general elections, noting that although the NPP struggled nationwide, the region fared better under his leadership.
“Even though the NPP did not do well in the last elections, my region did not suffer like others,” he stated.
He emphasised that while the party lost several parliamentary seats across the country, the Ashanti Region remained resilient.
“I worked hard to protect our seats and keep the party active in Ashanti,” he said.
Drawing a football analogy, Wontumi likened his performance to that of a standout player in a losing team.
“When a big club like Manchester United loses a match, people still look for one player who played well. In this case, that player is me,” he remarked.
He maintained that his achievements at the regional level demonstrate his readiness to take on the national chairmanship.
“I believe I deserve the national chairmanship slot because of what I have done,” Wontumi added.
