Nigerian music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has reflected on the life-changing impact of discovering Afrobeats star Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, professionally known as Ayra Starr.

His comments followed a post on X suggesting that Don Jazzy had rescued Ayra Starr from a career outside music by giving her an opportunity at Mavin Records.

Rather than taking sole credit for the singer’s transformation, Don Jazzy acknowledged that their professional relationship has also had a significant effect on his own journey.

“She has most definitely changed my own life too. I bless the day I was shown her Instagram freestyle o. And she has been nothing but a dream Starrgirl,” he wrote.

Ayra Starr joined Mavin Records in 2021 after Don Jazzy came across her freestyle on Instagram. The discovery marked the beginning of a partnership that has since produced major commercial success, international collaborations and global recognition for the singer.

From her breakout projects to international hits and high-profile performances, Ayra Starr has established herself as one of Africa’s most prominent young female music stars.

Don Jazzy’s response therefore suggests that what began as a discovery on social media ultimately became mutually transformative, with both the label boss and his artiste benefiting from their partnership.
