“I am the only politician who campaigns for Shatta Movement” – Hon. Titus Glover
Former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, has revealed that he remains one of the few politicians who openly associates himself with the Shatta Movement, the fan base of Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale.
According to him, many personalities shy away from publicly supporting the movement because of the controversies often linked to its leader, but he believes Shatta Wale’s impact on Ghana’s music industry deserves recognition.
Speaking in an interview on August 3, 2026, Titus Glover said his decision to defend the Shatta Wale brand became stronger after the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards incident involving Shatta Wale and dancehall artiste Livingstone Etse Satekla, known professionally as Stonebwoy.
The incident, which occurred during the 20th edition of the awards ceremony, sparked widespread debate after both artistes clashed on stage, resulting in public criticism and legal issues.
Titus Glover said many people misinterpreted Shatta Wale’s actions during the confrontation and formed negative opinions about him without considering the circumstances.
“I am the only politician who openly campaigns for the Shatta Movement. Many people are shy about being associated with the Shatta Movement. I remember the day Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy had an altercation at the Ghana Music Awards. That was the moment I decided I had to protect the Shatta brand.
“We have condemned Shatta Wale too much over the years. When he got up and started walking, many people assumed he was going to attack Stonebwoy, but that was never his intention,” he said.
The former minister acknowledged that Shatta Wale has faced controversies and has personal flaws, but argued that the musician’s achievements, influence and role in motivating young talents cannot be ignored.
“I believe it is important to protect the brand. I love Shatta Wale so much. Like everyone else, he has his shortcomings, but despite that, he has taken his craft to a level that inspires the younger generation. For me, once you’re a Shatta fan, you’re always a Shatta fan,” he added.
Titus Glover’s comments reinforce his long-standing public support for Shatta Wale, as he continues to defend the artiste’s contribution to Ghana’s entertainment industry despite the controversies surrounding him.
