Ghana’s former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed disgust at comments that suggest that he is an outsider and a slave in the New Patriotic Party.
These comments were made by the Asante Akim South MP, Kwaku Asante Boateng.
Dr Bawumia, during his campaign tour of the Oti Region on Sunday, found the comments distasteful and wondered how the party is going to attract new members if some leading members hold such a mentality.
He reminded the party of its tradition, values, and principles that have guided it since the formation of the party from the United Party era to a more formidable force in the country’s political arena today.
He questioned, “If Dr. Bawumia, after 17 years of service to the party, is described as an outsider and stranger, how do we grow the party to attract new members from all parts of Ghana?”
Bawumia urged the party to desist from propounding such bigotry as it threatens unity in the party.
“Today, some of my opponents say I am an outsider and a stranger, who does not deserve to lead the party because of where I come from. This is dangerous, divisive”, he emphasised.
