Residents of Awomaso ‘4 Junction’ in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region have given chilling accounts of the circumstances that allegedly led to the death of a 20-year-old Akua Kyem who was a maidservant to a woman named, Mama Jane in the area.
According to the residents who spoke on Oyerepa Breakfast Show hosted by Sometimer Otuo Acheampong Boadaa, the demeanour of the girl portrayed that of a troubled person. One of the residents recounted that he saw her about weeks before her demise with bruises on her face but she refused to tell him what was the cause.
“About two weeks before I heard of her death, I had met her in the vicinity with her face covered with a scarf otherwise known as mayafi with bruises on her face but when I asked her what was wrong with her, she said there was nothing wrong with her. She looked like somebody who had been beaten.“
Speaking with another woman who claimed to live directly opposite the house where the deceased served, she stated that the deceased wailed and shouted for help in the middle of the night two days before her demise but they couldn’t go to her aid because the house was secured with dogs.
“Friday dawn about 12 am, I and my husband were travelling to Accra so we were waiting for a car to pick us and we heard a noise from the upstairs of the house where the deceased lived. She was being beaten and crying out loud for help. All we heard was, somebody help me I am dying, she is killing me. But we couldn’t go in to help because the house is fenced with wild dogs inside.” She recounted.
Meanwhile, the family head of the deceased, Mr Kwarteng Peprah who also spoke on the same program stated that they believe Mama Jane might have maltreated the lady which led to her demise but they have handed the matter to the Ejiso Divisional Police Command for investigations to commence.
However, the body of Akua Kyem is deposited at the Morgue waiting for autopsy whiles the suspect, Mama Jane is in the grips of the Police aiding investigations
