The Ghana Police Service has taken measures to increase security in the Assin North Constituency of the central region ahead of the by-election.
This is to ensure that peace and order are maintained throughout the electoral process.
The police have deployed additional personnel to the area to provide a safe and secure environment for voters and candidates alike.
This move is a testament to the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to uphold the democratic process and protect the rights of citizens to exercise their right to vote.
A video available to Oyerepa TV captures uniformed men and women of the service in what appears to be a parade, showing their preparedness to maintain peace during the by-election.
A by-election has been deemed necessary due to a Supreme Court ruling on April 13, 2023, which ordered parliament to remove the name of James Gyakye Quayson, the then member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency, from its records for holding dual citizenship status.
Despite this, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has put forward Gyakye Quayson as their candidate of choice for the upcoming by-election on June 27, 2023.
The highly anticipated by-election will see Gyakye Quayson representing the NDC, Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) competing for the seat.
The NPP has been actively campaigning for Opoku, with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other national executives making appearances in the constituency.
Similarly, the NDC has been rallying support for Gyakye Quayson, with a former president and flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, Chairman of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and other prominent figures making appearances in the Assin North constituency.
The founder and presidential hopeful of the LPG, Kofi Apkaloo, has also been campaigning for Sefenu, who is the only female candidate in the by-election.
This by-election is crucial for the people of Assin North Constituency, as it will determine who will represent them in parliament.
The candidates and their respective parties have been actively campaigning, and it remains to be seen who will come out on top.
