The Chief of Breman (Bremanhene) Baffuor Kotei Koteng Saman II has sharply criticised former Suame Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Maxwell Ofosu Boakye for neglecting traditional leadership during his tenure, accusing him of ignoring palace protocols and limiting his public engagements to funerals.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the new Suame MCE, Frank Owusu Ansah, the Bremanhene did not hold back in expressing his disappointment with the past administration.
“Today is a great day for me because, for about five years now, this is the first time a Suame MCE has come here to officially introduce himself to me. The past NPP MCE for Suame, Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, never stepped foot in my palace ever since he was appointed by President Akufo-Addo. All he was good at was attending funerals,” the chief said.
The Bremanhene stressed the importance of traditional rulers in local governance and development, cautioning against attempts by political appointees to sideline chiefs in decision-making processes.
“This MCE work is not just for one man. Nananom in Suame play a major role because we are the representatives of the Asantehene. If you, as MCE, decide to gather a small group of people around you and don’t involve us, then you’re doomed to fail. Authority lies in the hands of Nananom, who head the communities within every district.”The Bremanhene warned.
He likened neglecting traditional leaders to “a pilot flying without a navigator,” emphasising that cooperation with chiefs is essential for the success of any municipal leader.
“…. If you disregard us (Nananom), then you are like a pilot without a Navigator.”
The remarks were made during a community engagement in Breman where Frank Owusu Ansah, recently appointed under the current NDC administration, paid a courtesy call to the Bremanhene to formally introduce himself and outline his vision for development in the area.
