“He has never seen our seventh child” – Wife accuses husband of abandoning family
A family dispute took a dramatic turn on Oyerepa Afutuo, hosted by Auntie Naa on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, after Afia Birago publicly accused her husband, Asamoah Augustine Danso, of abandoning her and their seven children, subjecting her to abuse and neglecting his parental responsibilities.
Speaking on the programme, Afia Birago said she met Asamoah Augustine Danso in 2006 and has been married to him for 23 years. According to her, she married him at the age of 18, and together they have seven children.
She alleged that the relationship became abusive several years ago, claiming her husband frequently threatened her with a knife, forcing her to seek refuge with relatives before returning home whenever the situation calmed down.
“For some time now, he has been mistreating me. He always threatens me with a knife, and I run to my family. I return only when he has calmed down. When I decided not to run away anymore whenever he threatened me, he stopped taking care of me and the children,” she alleged.
Afia Birago further claimed that her husband abandoned the family and left her solely responsible for raising their children. She also alleged that he had sold the only house they built together, leaving them without a permanent place to stay.
“He has sold the only house we built together. I used to stay at a family member’s house, but she is now fed up with me and the children. We have nowhere to stay. For the past two years, he has not sent us anything. I am the only one taking care of the seven children. The suffering has become too much, and I am unable to make any meaningful income from the businesses I do,” she said.
She also claimed that her husband has never met their youngest child.
“He doesn’t even know our seventh child. He has never seen the child before. He has gone to be with another woman who is married and has six children. I almost decided to take poison and also poison the children because of the suffering,” she stated.
Explaining what she believes led to the breakdown of the marriage, Afia Birago alleged that her husband became involved with one of her customers, a teacher who sold bags. According to her, she introduced the woman to her husband for business purposes, but they later developed a romantic relationship.
“He started doing this about five years ago. It began with a woman who was my customer. She was a teacher who sold bags, so I bought goods from her in bulk and paid in installments. I gave my husband’s contact to her so she could explain the business to him. My husband ended up having a relationship with her because she promised to help him travel abroad through one of her relatives. Before I realised what was happening, he had sold our land to finance the relationship,” she alleged.
Contacted live during the programme, Asamoah Augustine Danso denied the allegations and insisted that it was his wife who left the marriage voluntarily. He also rejected claims that he had sold their house or threatened her with a knife.
“Isn’t it you who left the marriage? Did I ask you to? I am not foolish enough to sell my house. Do you even know why I told you that I had sold the house? I have not sold the house. When did I ever threaten you with a knife? You even said the children are not mine. You left on your own. I asked you to bring the children to me, but you denied me access to them. Then you left with them. What do you want me to do?” he responded.
The allegations and counterclaims made during the programme have not been independently verified. As the couple continue to trade accusations publicly, the dispute has generated widespread discussion, with many calling for a resolution that prioritises the welfare of the seven children involved.
