Harriet Amuzu, the woman assaulted by her estranged husband in Ofankor in a case captured on a viral video, has shared a detailed account of the traumatic incident.

Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time with Kwesi Parker Wilson, Amuzu revealed that her estranged husband, John Odartey Lamptey, demanded sex from her despite their separation. When she refused, he allegedly assaulted her, smeared pepper on her private parts, and attempted to force himself on her.

She explained that they had been separated for months and she had moved out of the matrimonial home, making his demands unacceptable. Amuzu added that this was not the first time she had suffered abuse at his hands. She noted that she had previously filed complaints at both the Tesano and Ofankor Police Stations, accompanied by evidence, but no action was taken. The couple shares two children, aged five and two.

The police arrested John Odartey Lamptey on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the family home in Ofankor. His siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, were also arrested for allegedly attempting to attack a female tenant suspected of recording and circulating the video. All three suspects have been remanded into custody and are expected to reappear before the DOVVSU Magistrate Court on December 3, 2025.

Recounting events leading to the assault, Amuzu said she had travelled to her hometown and was attending a funeral on Saturday, November 15, when her estranged husband called, claiming their youngest child was seriously ill. Concerned, she immediately left the village at 3 p.m. and arrived in Ofankor around 9 p.m., only to find the children playing and in good health. Lamptey then admitted he had fabricated the story to lure her back.

Later that night, he demanded sex. When she refused, he reportedly told her he had “set a trap” and intended to harm her. She said she planned to return to her village the next morning, but Lamptey prevented her from taking the children.

According to her, he instructed another child, Daniel, to take the children outside before locking the door and attacking her. She said he stripped her, removed her underwear and waist beads while claiming ownership over them, beat her with a stick, stepped on her, and at one point retrieved a knife and threatened to cut off her hand.

The disturbing assault, parts of which were caught on video, has sparked widespread public outrage and renewed calls for stronger protections for domestic violence victims.
