The wife of late Godfred Akobila, the 2023 winner of Ghana’s Strongest competition, has shared details of the events that led to the sudden death of the celebrated strongman.

According to her, Akobila’s health challenge began unexpectedly in the early hours of the day when he complained of feeling unusually hot. She said she initially treated the situation as a minor illness before his condition worsened.

She explained that after noticing the discomfort, she gave him paracetamol and later, based on his suspicion that it could be malaria, she obtained malaria medication for him. However, his health continued to decline despite the treatment.

The wife revealed that while arrangements were being made to get him medical attention, the strongman collapsed before reaching the hospital, where doctors later confirmed his death.

Godfred Akobila, who became Ghana’s Strongest champion in 2023, was admired for his strength, discipline and determination after years of competing in the national contest before finally achieving victory.

His passing has left fans, fellow competitors and members of Ghana’s strength sports community mourning the loss of an athlete whose journey represented perseverance and hard work.

Tributes continue to pour in for Akobila, with many remembering him not only for his achievements in the competition but also for the resilience he displayed throughout his career. His sudden death has created a huge void in Ghana’s strongman community.
