Dr. Joseph Obeng, President of the Ghana Union Traders Association (GUTA), is thrilled about Dr. Hasan Ayarega’s free Port Policy, calling it a game-changer for traders.
At a meeting in Accra, Dr. Hassan Ayariga, the flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC), made a bold promise to the Ghana Union Traders Association (GUTA) – duty-free ports if he’s elected president on January 7th, 2025
Dr. Ayariga highlighted the crippling effect of Ghana’s port duties, which he claims are the highest globally, driving businesses to Togo’s free ports and resulting in significant revenue loss for the government.
According to GUTA President, this policy will enable traders to accurately project imports, thanks to a flat rate system that reduces corruption at ports and boosts government revenue.
Dr. Obeng used the platform inviting all flagbearers in the December 7th general election to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GUTA. This commitment would ensure that promises regarding the port are upheld, providing traders with stability and confidence.
