The Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited has officially opened the 2024 Accra Grand Sales Fair, running from Wednesday, October 30 to Sunday, November 3 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium In Accra.
The event showcases an array of local products, including clothing, cosmetics, and uniquely packaged food items, beautifully displayed with traditional materials like smocks (fugu) and batik tie-dye fabrics.
Dr. Agnes Adu, CEO of Ghana Trade Fair Company Ltd., emphasized promoting Ghanaian businesses, praising their quality and competitiveness. She urged Ghanaians to prioritize local products to support businesses and create jobs.
She insisted that deliberately choosing to patronize locally-made products is the only means citizens could support local businesses to survive and expand to create the needed value and jobs.
Her outfit has explored a myriad of avenues working with other state institutions like the Ghana Standard Authority, Food and Drugs Authority and Ghana Telecom University to expose Ghanaian businesses to international trends.
Cephas Bowman, CEO of Bowman Kente Weaving Enterprise, is urging the government to support “Made in Ghana” products, emphasizing its potential to create jobs for the youth and curb unemployment.
He notes that the Kente industry has suffered due to a lack of interest from parliamentarians, leading to a decline in the market. Bowman stresses that government support would not only boost the local economy but also attract international attention to Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
Bowman urges all Ghanaians, particularly parliamentarians, to take a keen interest in the Kente industry, recognizing its potential to drive economic growth and preserve cultural heritage. “By supporting Made in Ghana products, we can revitalize the Kente industry and create a brighter future for Ghana’s youth.”
