The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has apologised following public backlash over comments suggesting that postings to northern Ghana could be perceived as punitive.

In a statement issued by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, the Minister described the remarks—captured in a widely circulated video—as a “genuine slip in communication” that does not reflect her views or government policy on public service postings.

“My attention has been drawn to a widely circulated video in which I made remarks suggesting that postings to the northern part of our beloved country could be considered as a form of punishment,” she said.

“I wish to state, without reservation, that the comments were a genuine slip in communication and do not represent my considered position.”

Mrs. Ocloo explained that the comments were made in response to a media question about allegations that some technocrats who bypass due process in issuing development permits are often reassigned to nearby districts, allowing such practices to persist.

She noted that while addressing the issue, she referenced instances where some officials had been posted to locations far from their usual places of residence, but acknowledged that her wording created the wrong impression.

“Regrettably, my choice of words created the unintended impression that such postings were punitive,” she admitted.

The Minister offered an unreserved apology to Ghanaians, particularly residents of the northern regions.

“I sincerely acknowledge the concerns raised and apologise unreservedly to all Ghanaians, especially my brothers and sisters in the northern regions, for any offence or discomfort caused,” she stated.

She reaffirmed her commitment to fairness, professionalism, and due process in public administration, assuring that all staff postings and transfers would continue to be guided strictly by established rules and regulations.

Mrs. Ocloo also called on the public to consider the matter clarified, reiterating her dedication to serving the people of the Greater Accra Region with integrity, fairness, and accountability.
