According to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), transportation fares have not been adjusted.
It was earlier this week announced that transport unions will increase transport fares by 30% due to the high cost of fuel prices.
But Mr Richard Yaw Amankwah, GPRTU’s Deputy General Secretary in Charge of Operations, told GNA that the union planned to increase transportation prices but had yet to meet with the Ministry of Transport to show its offer for deliberation.
He explained that at their most recent meeting with the sector Minister in May of this year, it was agreed that transportation fares would be automatically adjusted anytime fuel prices went up by more than 10% collectively..
He said the Union was worried about the rising fuel cost at the pumps, hence its decision to benchmark transport fares against fuel prices to sustain the transport business.
Mr Amankwah said, “we’ve done our survey on fuel prices and spare parts. On Monday, leadership will meet to agree on the percentage to charge. Diesel at the last increment was selling at GHS11.39 for a litre; now it is GHS14.50. So it is likely to go up.”
