The Ghana Education Service’s Public Relations Officer, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, has announced that SHS students will receive free mattresses this year.
In anticipation of the 2023 school placement, which is expected to be released before the end of November 2023, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has unveiled the National SHS prospectus for the upcoming 2023/2024 academic year.
This prospectus, jointly developed by the GES and the Ministry of Education, aims to streamline the requirements previously requested by different schools.
The Ministry has advised all Senior High Schools in Ghana to rely solely on this proposed prospectus provided by the Ghana Education Service.
During an exclusive interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Show, on Thursday, Madam Cassandra elaborated on the rationale behind this decision. She explained that after extensive discussions with the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Adutwum, and the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. Eric Nkansah, it was agreed to reduce the items demanded from students prior to their enrollment in various SHS institutions.
“ Free Mattresses will be provided for all students across the country to ease pressure on parents…so there is no need to bring mattress along with you “ he stated.
Adding that, the ministry together with the GES will go an extra mile in making sure some unnecessary items on the prospectus are reduced drastically which are not really needed and will help ease pressure on parents.
